Friends I have a favor to ask. Tonight I embark on a wild expedition.
The seventy48 race. 70 miles from Tacoma to Port Townsend WA. The 48 means you have 48 hours to complete the distance. Many of the paddlers (sup, kayak, canoe, row, etc) stop and camp along the way.
I plan to race non-stop.
It will be long. It will be hard. It will be painful. It will be cold.
I am asking for your prayers, blessings, well-wishes, cheers, and whatever else's you want to send my way for strength, courage, and support.
I will need it all.

How the feminine slips in to my workouts. (Wait for it)
She's there in the long pauses between sets.
When I break out in spontaneous dance or slithering stretches.
Weight lifting, as with most forms of training, is inherently masculine.
masculine, not "male" but of the Yang, doing, structured energetic.
Pick it up. Put it down. Repeat x times.
Since re awakening to my feminine, Yin, being, flowing energy, ( that I dismissed for so many years,) the ways in which my body craves to move has drastically changed.
I currently feel both
the drive to train and get stronger, to push myself to be my best.
And the pull to move slow and in more nourishing ways.
So I do both.
Not always at the same time like this. Often at separate times.
I take the time to value all parts of my self and soul and what I need to feel my best
and to live with integrity.
Integrity, true wholeness of being
Athlete, mom, coach, wife
How I show up for one, I show up for all.

For all the water women in my life, I have something very special to share.
For the last year I have been a part of an online woman's community called @theheartspace.community
It is a place for conscious connection, deep growth, spirituality, sisterhood and being seen.
It is such an important and impactful part of my life,
immeasurably valuable, and a safe place to land amidst the fast-paced virtual society we find ourselves a part of these days.
It feels like a home.
Many of the friendships I have forged have become Real Life and forever feeling.
I even host a private monthly womens circle inside the heart space called the Revolution.
We talk about the earth, the moon, cycles, Life, and the magic of being a woman. Among other things, paddling included, we share our hearts, speak our truth, and celebrate each other.

As I make my way home
It starts to sink in...
That's my first major race in 3 and a 1/2years.
My first race since Paris 2019 when I won the app world tilte 😳😳😳
Fuck that a long time
So much has happened
And This was my first Carolina cup in 5 years!
Carolina cup is a hard race. The graveyard is no joke.
There is so much stamina, skills, and smarts that goes in to a good race.
And it takes practice.
I'm really stoked.
(Im also super bummed they cancelled the technical sprint race. I trained for it a lot and home and was excited to surf race.)
I had a great start and a great finish on the ocean yesterday.
What a different paddler than I was 5 years ago. I used to always do really well in the long grind in the flat and not great in the ocean.
What a different person than I was 4 years ago when I was last racing. Not just a mom, but grown in so many other ways in life.
And to be here racing again... when I had all but stopped paddling and wasn't sure I would ever start again.
It's not a comeback.
It's a welcoming home.
Feeling emotional, grateful, proud, excited, motivated, tired, and sore. 🥹🙌🏻🥰💪🏻🥴
Thank you for all of the amazing support, comments, well wishes, for being here and following the journey with me. It means so much!

I can't believe Carolina cup is this weekend!!- how I'm honestly feeling about it 👉🏻...
For years when I first started racing, Carolina Cup was my number 1 race. No jokes.
I wanted to win it so badly.
I trained so hard and I put so much pressure on myself. (Emphasize that last part🫣🥺🤯😵‍💫🥴!!!)
I was hungry for glory and eager to prove myself.
I was always so stressed out, sometimes to the point of being ill even before I arrived.
And on the race course I always managed to fuck it up.
I have historically done quite poorly at the event.
It's been 5 years since I've raced in 'the graveyard.' 😳
Injury, covid, pregnancy, and postpartum.
And now....well, now I feel quite different.
I am a totally different person than I was.
I've been training to the best of my ability, but I certainly wouldn't call it "hard."
I hold no expectations of myself, nothing to prove. I just want to show up and enjoy the entire experience.
I know I'm ready to race again.
I also know how far I am from where I was.
And that doesn't stop me from being excited to push the limits of what I am capable of today, right now.
That's what races are and why we show up, no matter who you are, pro or everyday jo.
It's an opportunity to go way outside your comfort zone and test your limits. And by doing so, we grow. We learn. We get better.
And it Feels good. (when it's over 😝)

I’m not the Athlete that I once was. I’m not as strong or as fit
and I don’t work as hard.
I can’t at this point with a baby to care for, a business to run, and a family to be with.
And I’m not in the least bit upset about that.
I am grateful for all of it.
I do my best to use the time that I do have to train to move well, but it’s not the same.
I’m not the same.
And I never will be.
It’s not a comeback I’m going for.
It’s a Reintroduction.
There is a WHOLE new kind of fuel stoking this fire!
Same passion - same purpose
New energy!
Driven by the desire to live in integrity with who I am as an Athlete, Mother, Woman
and what I bring to the world as a Coach. 100% human and 100% divine.
What races do I want to win this year?... no clue (if I will even be fit enough to win races this year)
What impact do I want to make on this sport?... (and in your heart)

Another deep and honest share. Building off my post from the other day, I don’t like using the word “back.”
There’s nothing backwards about the direction of growth I’ve experienced over the last three years, though none of it has been in the fitness department.
And I don’t like the word “shape.”
Just to clarify I don’t mean body shape.
I’m not trying to show off my body here. I’m wear next to nothing because it’s hot in FL.
Please understand that in this case I mean physical endurance and performance, strength and stamina “shape.”
I took a Loooooooooong time off of training.
I was pregnant 3 times during that time. (Good bye cardio in the heat. 🥵 Hello motherhood 🥰)
And my body and my heart went through a lot.
A lot of resting and a lot of healing.
A lot of moving in more nourishing and feminine ways wonderful and needed.
The part I am enjoying so much right now is feeling my body move through physical progression again through hard work.
Feels so good.
It’s like getting to climb the mountain all over again, but with more wisdom and experience each time.
And in my case so much more Grace.

Sometimes nap time doesn’t go as long as hoped.
Proud of myself for finishing my workouts even when the guy wakes up 1/2 way through.
I was asked recently for advice for moms getting back into fitness.
For me it’s been really helpful to be flexible with what type of workout I am able to do each day, how that workout actually plays out, and always have an option where Ry can come with.
Running with the stroller has been my go-to.
Sure getting out on the water is much preferred, but I would rather do something rather than nothing because I know how good it feels for my body and my soul, (especially when the excuses are good ones. 😉)

I’m going to be completely transparent and honest with you all right now. I feel so much pressure right now to “make a comeback.”
Whether it is self inflicted or not, there’s a large element of truth in feeling this way.
There’s a lot of people who genuinely care about following this sport, it’s athletes, and me.
I don’t like using the word “comeback” because there’s honestly nothing backwards about the direction of growth I’ve experienced over the last three years of not competing.
Though I would say almost none of that growth was in the SUP and fitness department.
I am not the same woman, athlete, or coach that I was. I have changed, evolved, expanded, and released a whole of “Me”
Who I think I am
Who you think I am
Who I think you think I am
Why any of that is important....
(Could do a whole separate post on Image)
And I honestly had to feel long and deep into whether or not I wanted to pursue this sport at all moving forward.
And the responding answer is Yes
Yes I do.
But not because I want to be the best or look the best or even to Win,
But because being an incredible athlete is my Gift. (Life, divine, god-given, however you like to think of it)
And helping, inspiring, motivating, and coaching others to move their bodies in ways that feels so good, push them out of their comfort zones, get them out on the water, and feel empowered through sport is still my purpose
It always has been and for now will continue to be my purpose, my Why, and the reason you will be seeing me “back” on the start line this year.

A quick clip from a longer Live video transmission I did on turning your SUP And a quick tip on making your #backsideturns faster:
- Backside turns can feel more unstable due to the twisted nature of paddling behind your back to make the turn.
- Ease this by combining a crossbow stroke with a backside stroke.
- Once you have gotten your feet/weight back, using these strokes in combination makes for a much faster backside turn.

Incredible vibe and community on the water today.
Short, tech races like this are so fun to watch and cheer everyone on.

All smiles at the @treasurecoastpaddlebattle yesterday! We had exciting, fast and fun conditions for ocean to sound 10k course.
It took me a while to get warmed up but I actually felt/found race gear for a short while and it felt really good.
It's definitely a process, getting back into racing, the mindset and the motivation to push yourself.
There's a lot I want to share about it this but it's going to have to wait for another post. ☺️
I raced my Atlantis 14x22 for the first time (can you believe it?) and was super happy with my board choice.
It was so fun to see everyone. 💙🙏🏻🌊🏄🏽‍♂️

The NUMBER ONE complaint/excuse I hear from paddlers about training: “I wish I had more time to train.” “Once there’s more daylight, then I can paddle more.”
Sure, I hear you. I have a little one now and a business to run and having time to train can feel like a luxury that ‘others’ always seem to afford more of.
I agree that being out on the water is not the same as being in a gym or at home, but… there is so much benefit to training on AND OFF the water. So much benefit to improving your strength that translates to paddling faster, and benefit to training on a stable surface when you are learning and practicing using proper body mechanics. >> ALL of which we will do inside the 8 week SUP STROKE SCHOOL that starts March 3rd.
Semi serious TIP for land-based training for all of you “I only love working out on the water” people - Wear your swimsuit/paddle gear. I find most things in life way more fun when I’m in a bikini 😉
